When some rocket enthusiasts at the Michiana Rocketry club wanted to launch a Porta Potty into the sky, Joy’s Johns donated one of its portable restrooms to the mission. Dubbed “Thrusting the Throne”, the project took more than two years of planning the launch with about 30 club members working on the rocket before its inaugural flight.
The modified 450-pound Porta Potty Rocket was powered with one N and six L motors, and Plexiglas fins were added, along with two skydiving parachutes to help with its descent. News of the launch spread around the world, and over 500 spectators came out for the launch, which resulted in the Joy's Johns Porta Potty reaching an estimated altitude of 1126 feet.
